If you are building a PBN or flipping domains for profit, you’ve likely been told to check the “big” aggregator sites. You know the ones: Spamzilla, ExpiredDomains.net, Easy Expired Domains and DomCop.
But what if I told you that by relying solely on those databases, you are missing out on thousands of high-authority gems every single day?
I decided to run a live experiment to see how these popular services stack up against a real-time crawl using Domain Hunter Gatherer (DHG). The results were even more lopsided than I expected.
The Experiment: Hunting vs. Searching
In a recent episode of my PBN guide series, I used Domain Hunter Gatherer to crawl a high-authority domain in my niche. In just one afternoon, I found over 12,000 expired domains. From that list, I whittled it down to 8 “shortlist” domains—all of which had great stats, clean history, and highly relevant niche backlinks.
Two of those domains (developer-resource.com and links2rss.com) were so good I registered them immediately. These are domains that could easily fetch $100 to $500 each on a reseller market.
The Test: I took those 8 high-value domains and searched for them across the industry’s most popular aggregator sites.
1. Spamzilla vs. DHG
Spamzilla is a popular option that is often mentioned online. Their website looks just like another competitor (weird).
- The Result: 0 out of 8. Spamzilla did not have a single one of the domains I found. If I had relied on their database, I never would have known these domains existed.
2. ExpiredDomains.net vs. DHG
This is a massive, free resource used by thousands of domainers.
- The Result: 2 out of 8. They found a quarter of the list, but they completely missed the two best domains that I ended up purchasing. Furthermore, ExpiredDomains.net lacks the advanced Majestic and Moz stats (Trust Flow, Topical Trust Flow, etc.) integrated directly into DHG, making the vetting process much slower.
3. Easy Expired Domains & DomCop
- The Result: 0 out of 8. Even with massive databases of over 50 million domains, these services didn’t have the real-time “boots on the ground” data that a fresh DHG crawl provides.
Why Aggregators Are Failing You
Aggregator sites work by maintaining a static database. They crawl what they can, but they have limited resources. They can’t be everywhere at once.
When you use Domain Hunter Gatherer, you aren’t just searching a database; you are sending out your own personal “spider” to crawl the specific authority sites in your niche.
- Freshness: You find domains the second they expire, often before they ever hit an aggregator’s radar.
- Niche Relevancy: You are finding domains that have direct links from your competitors or industry leaders.
- Exclusive Access: Because these domains aren’t on the big aggregator sites, you aren’t competing with thousands of other buyers at auction. You can often pick them up for the cost of a standard registration ($10-$15).
The $500 Result for $20 Work
In about an hour of work, I found and registered two domains that saved me roughly $480 compared to buying them from a broker. The value proposition is clear: DHG pays for itself almost immediately by uncovering the “hidden” inventory the rest of the market is missing.
If you are serious about domaining or SEO, stop waiting for the best domains to show up in a public search. Go out and hunt them.
